A Spoonful

Everything is an affair of the Spirit. If God has a way, then that is the only way. Every little thing in which you would have your own way, has a mission for your redemption; and He will treat you as a naughty child until you take your Father’s way for yours.

George MacDonald

There arises within the joy of Christ finding His beloved a desire to know more of the person of Christ, the meaning of what He said, a desire yearning for a roadmap in the life ahead. Such a desire is of utmost importance in distinguishing between the old life and new, between what before you believed, even trusted, and what you now claim and have been claimed for. For what has He claimed you? What must the new life be like? As mankind would have it, if he could have it, to know is to control, to make seen the unseen, to de-mystify the mystery into tangibility.

The desire to know and understand God and Christ, the divine nature so distant from our own, is good. To acquire it for any reason other than to trust in the unseen, the one and holy God, to use for purposes not His own, fails the meaning for which He claimed you. To be fed means to raise the dimmer from its low setting to its highest and brightest light. God is infinite. His children always are searching Him, attempting to understand what before was unknown. In every way, in every relation there is revelation. God revealing Himself is ongoing. He cannot be exhausted. But to remain in this desire, unto itself a good, rather to share it, a better good, calls into every relation a light beneath a bushel. There does come a divergence from this desire when you discover God desires another way.

How should we keep our light beneath the bushel but to concern ourselves with every worry over things a day’s moon and sun away or concern ourselves with having or not having. What does it matter if you have and have not God, worry over a future and not trusting God. What kind of faith is it as J.D. Walt says, “through sheer strength of numbers the consensus in the present can bully the truth of the past?” And by past, he means eternal truth. Why would we worry over needs, needs that are not needs at all, when God gives, first His presence, and then, all we only need. Are we to be so concerned with more that our hearts become crowded with the thought, and so, not allowing room for God? Trust God, the only true care, first, and all things shall be given, the things that matter. And if it does not matter to God, why matter to us? We shall be fed.

What, then, is God’s way, if He wishes you to be fed, indeed feeds you, but to follow His way and feed your neighbor? By feeding, the bushel lifts, and thus your light shines.
